Evaluation Question 1

Double Spread Page Analysis

The typography of this double spread pages main headline is a mature and sophisticated, this connotes that the magazine is for an older audience, it is also done in bold which signifies that it is the main title of the page. Underneath the heading a subtitle has been put to introduce the article for the readers so that they know what it is with out reading the whole thing, this can also be done to interest the readers into reading the whole article. In the subheading the name of the group has been done in bold so it stands out and the readers know who the article is about, also their picture has been put in, it is big and takes half of the page. The main image relates to the title ‘art of darkness’ as the lighting reflects a mysterious/enigmatic scene, the positioning of the artists is alos significant as the women is in the middle which suggests that she is being protected, however it can be argued that it subverts the stereotypical view of a women as she is an androgynous (which means that she is someone which looks both male and female) as she is dressed in male clothing. The article has been written in an interview style which suggests a journalistic/reportage style to signify the band’s importance.

Front Cover analysis

The genre of this magazine is R and B, the fact that he has no jewelery does not reflect with the theme of the magazine. However his facial features make him look angry or tuff which could suggest that his music is also strong and may have an angry tone to it. The words ‘the power of 50’ represents 50 cents (main image) status and shows that he was one of the main rappers at that time, it also connotes that he has the power of 50 inside him. 50 cents name is not put on the front cover of the magazine; this implies that he is known by lots of people. The image of 50 cent is a close up which is done to show that he is the main person in the magazine, also there is back lighting which makes the image stand out, and in addition it puts him in the centre of the magazine. The colours used (black, white and red) add a more serious approach to the magazine, the fact that the title is done in white on a red background makes it stand out more, also the red banner behind the title distinguishes that it is the main title. The fact that there is not much writing on the front cover of the magazine implies that 50 cent is the main person, by  doing this it makes him the centre of attention as the readers eyes will be on him instead of reading the sub-headings. On the side there are other people’s names which tell the readers that they are also inside the magazine however they are written in small font which advocates that they are not as important as 50 cent.

content page analysis

This content page is from the magazine vibe. The words ‘content’ is split up; this is their unique stamp that shows the readers which magazine they are reading. The front cover of the magazine is also put on the content page. The colour grey is done throughout the whole of the content page. Even though this makes it look dull it adds a serious mood to the magazine which could mean that their chosen target audience for this magazine is an older more classy audience of around 25-30s. The fonts of the sub headings are done in a classical way which could indicate that the magazine is for a more sophisticated audience. The makers of the magazine have chosen Mavado to be on the content page as he’s image is the biggest one connotes that he is important in the magazine and suggests that he will be featured in the magazine. As Mavado is a gangster in the music industry he relates to the genera of the magazine. To show that he recounts to the gangster theme he is wearing chain, bracelet, watch and a Gucci belt, also his head is slightly tilted shows that he is in control and the fact that he is looking straight at the camera shows that he has power but in a tranquil way.

rejected pictures

Even though I use him for my final magazine, I believed that the shirt he was wearing did not fit into my pacific genera. Also the wall looks slanted which I didn’t not want and half of his one hand is missing.

Feedback

Abha I am happy to see that you are almost up to date with the research and planning tasks. You should now maintain a running commentary of your production work in progress to include screen shots and your original photos (including rejected ones). You must also get up up speed with the front page.

music magazine front cover analysis

The genre of this magazine is R and B, this is reflected in the way the masthead is written, the name of the magazine is written in diamonds this also reflects the bling worn by the artists on the front cover. The fact that both artists are wearing lots of chains shows off their wealth in an obvious way, this contrast with the background which is a rundown house which imitates the ghetto areas and gang culture and it relates with the R and B and rap style of the magazine. Also the fact that Lil Wayne is wearing a 'young money' necklace simbolises his record lable.
Both artists are also topless, this makes them look big and shows off their muscles, the tattoos on them shows off their masculinity, because they have so much on them it makes them look more like a man, this is because when getting tattoos you get it done with a needle which would hurt, this reveals that they went through a lot of pain to get the tattoos.  The fact that they are wearing hats could connote that they are promoting the hats so that their fans would also buy the hats, also the fact that they both have their trousers low shows the conventional side of the R and B genre, including the head tilt by both artists represents their superiority.  The fact that baby has his hands over Lil Wayne suggests that he is looking after him or protecting him as a brother. It also correspondences with his name ‘Lil’.

The whole magazine is in black, white and red. The colour flows throughout the front cover of the magazine, the colours relate to the theme of R and B. The puff on the top of the magazine uses alliteration; this makes the puff catchy and easier to learn. It also echoes the artist as being the best and dominant among the R and B industry it adds to the status of the magazine. there is also another puff "10th Anniversary our best issue ever" boasts the magazines greatness.

overall this music magazine appeals to a wide audience because of its main image. it confirms to the sterotype of the Hip Hop genera which is power and wealth and so it reaches out to Hip Hop audience.

Having sold his first song just at the age of 14 he is now a worldwide sensation. Here he speaks exclusively to grime magazine about his experience, his life and his relationship with actress ______________.
YELLOW MAN!!

How did you feel when Sony music promoted you at the age of 14?
It didnt hit me until i came into the studio and sang for the producers, my mum was so proud of me, i never thought i would get so far. one second im just uploading my music on youtube and the next im in a big studio singing to get my music out to the world.

This year has been high for you, what do you think next year will hold?
well next year i will be doing my tour around the uk which im really excited about, i am going to scotland all the way down to brighton. the dates for my tour is on the sony website. i can not wait to see all my fans.
So, we have all heard the rumours about you and Kim its time to let out the truth.
well me and her have become quite close this year i would like to get to know her better and hopefully it can go from there. :)
So if she wasn’t in the picture do you have any secrete crushes?
hahaha well before i used to have a crush on Jessica Alba, i think she is a very gourgous women. :D
So what does the future seem for you and Kim?
i dont know your just going to have to wait and see, but hopefully it will be moving forward and not back.
How do you stay so fit?
I can honestly say that i work out only twice a week. i dont really have much time to go to the gym everyday now, i also eat very healthy mostly because of my mum because as i grew up if i didnt eat my vegatables i did not get desert. so i guess i thank my mum really. :)
You have been working so hard, do you get any pressure to work this hard?
no, my manager and my friends in the music business just support me and help me get as much as i can out of me. I really want to succeed and have the public hear my songs and want to dance and sing along ot it so even if that means staying up 24/7 just to get the right beat i am willing to do that.
